6 Missing, 22 Rescued As Boat Capsizes In Lagos Water

LAGOS – At least 6 people are still missing after a boat capsized in the Lagoon in Majidun area off Ikorodu. The boat, which had about 28 people on board was overturned on Wednesday evening, April 2, 2014.

22 people were reportedly rescued out of the water by local divers at the scene of the accident.

The incident is happening exactly three weeks after a boat capsized at the 4th Avenue area of FESTAC Town, Lagos,  claiming 13 lives.

Eyewitnesses report that the boat was filled with working class people who were headed home after the day’s job

The spokesperson, National Emergency Management Agency, South-West zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident, saying that 22 people had been recovered from the water while 6 remained unaccounted for.

“NEMA officials along with men of the Nigerian Navy and the marine policemen officials of the National Inland Waterways Authority are patrolling the water in a bid to recover bodies.”
