Be Neutral – Benue Guber Aspirant Urges Journalists

A Benue state gubernatorial candidate under the auspices of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, and a retired permanent secretary, Mr. Ihinga Beim, has urged the Benue state journalists to be objective in their reports in order to achieve a hitch-free general elections in 2015 because the media has fought for democracy and ought to uphold honesty at all times.

He disclosed this during the Benue gubernatorial aspirants’ forum convened by the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Benue state chapter, which held at the press centre.

According to him, democracy can only thrive when the media tells the people the truth at whatever cost, Punch reports.

He said, “I wish to advise that as you go about your work, remember that you are collaborator, not adversaries of the Benue project.”

Furthermore, the aspirant who previously worked as an editor with the state-owned newspaper, The Voice, vowed to bring a total change in the state-owned media outfits which other governors paid less attention to if he eventually wins.

The governorship candidate further pledged to lead the state with the fear of God if he eventually scales through the elections successfully adding the opinion of all and sundry in the state will count during his tenure being that “meaningful progress comes from thinking, listening and working together.”

He said, “I wish to make a solemn pledge, that if the people of Benue State are benevolent enough to entrust me with the leadership of the state, I will govern with the fear of God and have respect for humanity.”
