Chairman Of Oil Marketers In Benue Kidnapped

The chairman of the Benue state chapter of the Independent Oil Marketers, Matthew Agbason has been kidnapped on Thursday, October 2, 2014 by unknown gunmen in front of his residence in Mkar, Gboko area of Benue state, Vanguard reports.

The kidnappers who have demanded a ransom of N15 million abducted Agbason who was driving his Highlander Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and abandoned the car along the road without any trace of the oil chief.

Agbason’s kidnap has sparked protests by loved ones and other oil marketers in the state ho have demanded that he be released without any condition, leading to fuel scarcity in Gboko and its surrounding towns as all service stations were closed down by the protesters with a liter of fuel going for as high as N300 in the black market, which have become the only source of the commodity.

Reports also indicate that oil marketers in the state capital, Makurdi held series of meetings in a bid to lock shops in the vstate until Agbason is released.

The Benue state police spokesman, Daniel Ezeala has confirmed the kidnapping, saying the police has recovered Agbason’s SUV vehicle and were currently working with the Gboko area command to secure his release and bring the perpetrators to book.
