LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigerian social media personality Blessing CEO has confirmed the death of her second son, Bryan, while she remains in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
Blessing Nkiruka Okoro, as she is formally known, spoke about the death after reports emerged on Friday, September 25, 2026, that her son had died while she was unable to leave custody.
“My second son, Bryan, was full of life. While in custody, I lost Bryan,” she said in a recorded conversation circulated publicly.
She said she hoped to be released soon so she could “pick up the pieces” of her life and pay her respects to him.
The circumstances and cause of Bryan’s death have not been publicly established.
Blessing CEO Rejects Fundraising Appeal
Amira Agiye of the Isaamira Love Foundation initially announced the death publicly and launched an appeal seeking N56 million on Okoro’s behalf.
Agiye said N20 million was needed to satisfy bail requirements and another N36 million to address financial claims related to Okoro’s legal troubles.
But Okoro subsequently said she had not authorised Agiye to solicit money for her.
“I didn’t give anybody consent. And I think I’m in the best position to break the news of my son’s death, not an entire stranger,” she said, according to P.M. News.
Actress Doris Ogala, who spoke with Okoro, also urged people who had contributed to the fundraising appeal to seek refunds.
Ogala said Okoro was close to completing the process required to secure her release and denied that she had asked the public to raise N56 million for her.
Okoro Remains in Custody
Okoro is facing several criminal proceedings brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
In one case before the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, the EFCC alleges that she obtained N69.15 million from Hope Chiropractic Health Clinic Limited in March 2025 by falsely representing that she owned a property in Lekki that she purportedly leased to the company for five years.
She pleaded not guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.
Justice Rahman Oshodi granted her bail of N20 million on July 23, with two sureties in the same amount.
Each surety was required to provide three years of bank statements or evidence of fixed deposits worth at least N20 million, while Okoro and the sureties were ordered to undergo screening through the Lagos State Judiciary’s Bail Information Management System.
The court also imposed travel restrictions pending the determination of the case.
The matter is scheduled to continue on October 12.
Okoro is also facing separate EFCC proceedings in the Federal High Court in Lagos.
As she continues efforts to secure her release, the death of her son has added a deeply personal loss to her ongoing legal difficulties.
