President Muhammadu Buhari has backed out of a much anticipated official trip to Ogoniland in Rivers State slated for Thursday, June 2, 2016.

In his place, Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would represent him at the event which is the official flag off of the Ogoniland cleanup.

Spokesman to the president, Mr. Femi Adesina has confirmed to The Trent, Thursday morning, that Osinbajo would be representing Buhari at the event which is seen as a symbolic show of love for the people of the Niger Delta.

“The trip is not cancelled. The vice president would be representing President Buhari,” Adesina told our reporter.

Adesina did not provide any reason for the president’s decision to back out of the trip.

Ogoniland is the site of one of the world’s most devastating oil spills and has been the flashpoint for protests against the oil major, Shell over its human rights abuses and environmental degradation.

  1. Ha ha ha. Buhari is a coward.

I saw this on Twitter: Buhari was just a Lilly livered quota system coupist who got to rank of general by fraud & his participation in genocide.

    So true

  2. It is always the case with dictators; they are geared by their insecurity and cowardice. Remember what happened when the going got tough for Saddam Husain, he ended up being found in a hole, as his last resort, not to forget about the strongest Gadhafi, who was found in a pipe when his downfall finally came. Who knows where they would be found tomorrow if it gets out of hand. Here they are for you, the Civil war Generals of the Nigerian Nation who took pride in butchering over 2 million fellow compatriots. And who under their command today their security forces are shooting down in cold blood unarmed youths in peaceful demonstration as a sign of their toughness and Bravery. What a shame if they know any shame at all.
