BREAKING: Magnus Abe Declared Winner Of Rivers South East Senatorial Race

Must read

Magnus Abe, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been declared winner of the legislative rerun election in Rivers South East Senatorial District.

The returning officer for the Rivers South East district, Onukwuisi Gideon, made this announcement on Sunday.

Abe polled a total of 125,938 votes to defeat Olaka Nwogu of  the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who got 25,394 votes.

There has been a lot of drama associated with announcing the results of the election in the Rivers South East district. INEC officials walked out of the collation centre, leaving the returning officer alone with APC party agents. Journalists and all other party agents also walked out of the collation centre when the INEC official left.

Returning Magnus Abe to the Nigerian senate was a do-or-die project for embattled transportation minister, Rotimi Amaechi who is reportedly priming Abe to contest against Governor Nyesom Wike in 2019.

Original report with live updates of the results of the rerun polls.

Ahead of the Rivers rerun election, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, have traded hot words with both parties accusing the other of plots to rig the poll or unleash violence on the process.

Indeed there were reports of violence, voter intimidation, ballot box snatching, and stealing of result sheets by agents of the All Progressives Congress, APC in collusion with security agents in the legislative rerun elections in Rivers State which threatened to mar the exercise on Saturday, December 10, 2016.

But for the resilience and vigilance of the people of Rivers, the exercise would have been railroaded and the wishes of the people scuttled.
