The Jigawa State Government has confirmed the death of 100 persons as a result of a cholera outbreak in 19 local governments within the state.
Salisu Mu’azu, the permanent secretary of Ministry of Health who disclosed this said the state has recorded over 5,000 cases of Cholera within one month.
Mu’azu explained that out of the number, 251 persons were admitted at various healthcare facilities across the state.
He however warned against the use of contaminated water, vegetables, food supplied from river banks, urging improved personal and environmental hygiene.
Mu’azu said the state government, with support from UNICEF and Lafiya program, has formed a rapid response team to curtail the spread of the disease.
