LONDON, United Kingdom — CNN has dismissed London-based reporter and editor Marie-Louise Gumuchian after an internal investigation found plagiarism in about 50 published stories, the network said.
CNN announced the dismissal on Friday, May 16, 2014, in an editor’s note published in its world news section.
“We’ve terminated Gumuchian’s employment with CNN, and have removed the instances of plagiarism found in her pieces. In some cases, we’ve chosen to delete an entire article,” CNN wrote.

The network said it had no immediate plans to discipline any of the editors who handled Gumuchian’s work.
A CNN source told Mashable that the organisation conducted regular checks on employees’ work.
Material written by Gumuchian, who had worked at CNN for about six months, was flagged during one of those reviews.
CNN then expanded the examination of her work and found plagiarism across dozens of published stories, according to the source.
The network informed Gumuchian that it intended to identify her publicly, partly because some of the affected articles carried shared bylines and would require editor’s notes explaining the corrections.
Not every article carrying Gumuchian’s name was deleted. Her reporting on the Oscar Pistorius trial and same-sex marriage in Wales remained available on CNN’s website.
Before joining CNN, Gumuchian spent nearly six years working for Reuters, according to her profile with the news agency. CNN notified Reuters about the findings, but the organisation did not immediately respond to a request from Mashable for comment.
Gumuchian’s Twitter account was also shut down.
Muck Rack, a website that connects journalists with their social-media profiles, indicated that the account had remained active until May 6.
