Police Arraigns 3 For Armed Robbery, Cultism In Delta

Three persons have been arraigned by the Delta State Police Command in connection with an armed robbery attack that occurred at Jeddo, near Warri in the state.

The command’s spokesman, Mr. Roland Preston, said in a statement that the Ugborikoko Police Station arrested the suspects in a hotel in Warri, where property robbed from victims of the robbery attack were recovered, a Punch report said.

The statement read, “Three armed men invaded the house of one David Sunday and Oluwakemi Monica in Jeddo town and robbed them at gunpoint of their property, viz: jewellery, handsets, ATM cards, voter cards, passport photographs, wristwatches and other valuables estimated at N814,250.

“However, detectives from the Ugborikoko Police Station acting on a tip-off, raided the hotel along Airport Road, Warri and arrested one Peter Sunday, Collins Sakutu, and Princewell Idiemuagele in connection with the crime.

“Items recovered from them were assorted jewellery, five different handsets, eight wristwatches, one kitchen knife, ATM cards, voter cards, passports, 12 SIM cards of different networks, clothes, shoes, bags and a wrap of dry weed suspected to be Indian hemp.

“The victims have identified the recovered items as the valuables robbed from them. Meanwhile, the suspects are undergoing preliminary investigation at Orerokpe Division.”

Furthermore, in a similar case, the police operatives of the aforementioned command had also nabbed one person for displaying some violent actions during the local government elections on Saturday, October 25, 2014.

According to the command, during the accreditation, at wards/units 15, 16, 17 and 19 at Orhuwohorun primary school in Ovwian Aladja while the election was ongoing, about 50 suspected cultists and political thugs, armed with battle axes, cutlasses and gallons of fuel, stormed the venue of the election, pursued the DSIEC officials and voters at the same time damaging some materials used for the election.

The statement further disclosed that, “Upon receiving the information, patrol teams swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested one Alex Obukowho, 25, with a cutlass while others escaped. Two other cutlasses were recovered at the scene.”
