The decomposing remains of two lovers, simply identified as Udogi Eguke and Ese, were found on Sunday, days after they died in mysterious circumstances in their Makolomi Street apartment of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Vanguard reports.

The couple whose wedding had been scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2014, were said to have started full course of preparation for the event and even sent invitation cards to prospective guests before the tragedy struck.

The tragic incident was disclosed by Chief Alfred Onavwa, who owns the one storey building and shared the top floor with one of the couple.

Onavwa disclosed that some concerned neighbours who had not seen the deceased man had alerted him about his absence and he placed a call across to his phone only to hear the phone ring in his apartment.

“On getting close to the door of the private stairway leading to their apartment, I noticed that it was locked from inside, with a stench oozing out.

“On realizing this, I personally invited the police who came and broke the door only to discover their decomposing bodies, he explained.”

He added, “Their remains were later deposited in the mortuary and I was made to understand that investigation into the matter was ongoing.

“Even the Ughelli Divisional Police Officer was here to see things for himself.”

However, the Ughelli Divisional Police Officer, Samuel Musa, had nothing to say about the incident but directed all comments on the matter to the state Police Public Relation Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Celestina Kalu whose calls and messages were unanswered.
