Delta State Polytechnic Sacks 2 Lecturers For Extorting Money From Students

The governing council of the Delta State- owned polytechnic, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state, has approved the immediate termination of appointment of two of its members of staff over alleged gross misconduct and extortion, reports say.

This was contained in an official bulletin issued over the weekend which stated that the lecturers breached the  law by extorting money unnecessarily from the students all in the name of project supervision.

The duo whose names were immediately removed from the institution’s payroll included a senior lecturer III of Science and Laboratory Technology and Senior Instructor, Department of Building Technology (names withheld).

Confirming the incident, the rector of the institution, Dr. Jacob Oboreh, said that the council came up with the decision after serious investigation as stipulated by the extant rules of the polytechnic and the recent academic board approved disciplinary measures against staff who were involved in such act.

Oboreh disclosed that the termination of appointment for the two lecturers took effect from Friday, January 2, 2015.
