A YouTube video showing a football fan apparently walking back to his wheelchair in the disabled section of the Maracana stadium has been posted online, sparking fierce debate.
The short clip, taken just after half-time during the Ecuador v France match this week, has led some to suggest the fan has experienced a ‘miracle’ recovery from his condition thanks to the power of the beautiful game.
However, others have pointed to his stuttering steps as evidence of his genuine physical impairment.
The video comes after Fifa had already confirmed it is investigating possible incidents of fraud, where fans were claiming to be disabled in order to get access to cheap tickets in prime viewing areas at World Cup stadiums.
