The Ebonyi State House of Assembly on Monday, November 10, 2014 impeached the Speaker Chukwuma Nwazunku over charges of gross misconduct, incompetence and embezzlement of funds reserved other members of the house, just as the Deputy Speaker, Blaise Orji was elected in his stead.
The motion for the Speaker’s impeachment was moved by the majority leader of the house Sam Nwali, while Chris Usolor, representing Ezza South constituency seconded the motion.
It was gathered that this would be the second time Nwazunku will be impeached, after he was impeached two months ago, although his job was saved by a swift move by the Governor, Martin Elechi.
The lawmakers also suspensed for of their colleagues including the Chief Whip, Ogbonnaya Ikoro. Others suspended are Oliver Nwachukwu, Odefa Obasi and Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Nwazunku’s supporters have remained adamant, claiming that e remains the authentic speaker.
Reports have it that the crisis rocking the state house of assembly may not be unconnected with the race to become the state governor next year.
