The Edo State House of Assembly had in the early hours of Monday, November 3, 2014, been bereaved of one of the legislators, Mr. Peter Usman Aliu, 61, who until his death was a representative of Etsako East constituency under the aegis of All Progressives Congress.
The lawmaker who was a lawyer and accountant until his death reportedly gave up the ghost at about 8am at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Ugbowo, following an undisclosed sickness.
Some of the legislators were seen commiserating with the widow and other family members of the late lawmaker, when our correspondent visited his apartment at the Legislators’ Quarters.
Aliu who was the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and Project Monitoring was serving his second term as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly and had recently picked his nomination form to seek a third term in the House.
Governor, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state had paid a tribute to the family including the widow of the late lawmaker Mary describing the deceased as “a man of character and principle, whose unwavering position on both state and national issues made him outstanding among his colleagues”.
He further stated that Aliu was a peaceful man who exhibited the role of a father in the state’s legislation for which he would be remembered.
