BREAKING: Whistleblower Leads EFCC To N4 Billion In Fixed Deposit Accounts

Must read

A tip-off by a whistleblower on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 led to another discovery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of a staggering sum of N4 billion suspected to be proceeds of crime, a statement from the agency said.

“Investigations as to the owner of the funds revealed that the money belongs to a former deputy governorship candidate in Niger State,” Wilson Uwujaren, spokesperson for the EFCC, said in an e-mailed statement to The Trent.

“The suspect uses the names of two companies – Katah Property and Investment Limited and Sadiq Air Travel Agency- in laundering the funds.

“Each of the company has N2 billion fixed in its deposit account domiciled in Guaranty Trust Bank.

“The suspected owner of the account and the account officer are currently on the run,” the statement ended.

Monday, the EFCC announced that it had intercepted N250 million cash, some in hard currency, at a Bureau De Change in Balogun Market. According to the commission, the owner of the funds was nowhere to be found.

Two weeks ago, the anti-graft agency also claimed that it had found N49 million cash at the Kaduna Airport.

The one common thread in all these reports is that Nigerians never get an update as to who owns the money or if the money was indeed a the proceed from crimes and nobody has been charged to court yet from these EFCC findings.

These, and other factors, the main one being that the chairperson of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, is embattled and has been rejected by the Nigerian Senate, hence there is a need to beef up the image of the anti-graft agency in the media.

The passage of time will unravel what these major scoops really are.

Magu was rejected by the Nigerian Senate based on a report by the Nigerian secret police which said that he was corrupt and sleeping in bed with corrupt persons who were also subjects of investigation by the very agency that he is heading.
