Enugu Police Arrest Fulani Herdsman With AK-47 Rifle And 24 Rounds Of Ammo

Ibrahim Adamumale, a 20-year-old Fulani herdsman has been arrested by the Enugu Police for allegedly owning an AK47 rifle. The suspect who was also found with 24 rounds of live ammunition, claimed to hail from Nasarawa State.

Ebere Amaraizu, Enugu State Police Command spokesperson confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, saying that Adamaumale, whom claimed he lives at Hausa quarters in 9th-mile area and had cows at Affa-Udi bush, was arrested on Sunday,August 28.

“The suspect was nabbed by the combined efforts of the police and the members of the public from Affa-Udi community acting on a tip off.

“The suspect before his arrest fired about six shots into the air to evade being nabbed.

“Before now, the police and members of the public had gathered information about the suspect’s antecedents.”

The police spokesman has said that the suspect was helpful, aiding the police in investigating how he came about the rifle.

He also said that the State’s commissioner of police, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu has displayed appreciation at the effort of his men and the community that led to the arrest of Adamaumale.

An Enugu community, Attakwu in Nkanu West Local Government Area , was attacked last week by suspected members of the Fulani herdsmen militia. A Catholic seminarian, Lazarus Nwafor, was murdered in the attack that left 4 others with severe injuries including a pregnant woman, Mrs. Nwarum, whose stomach was ripped open with a machete.
