A photo of the ‘famous EFCC 5’ has surfaced showing the high profile political detainees who were arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, a few months ago.

The photo, according to the source, shows (from left – right) Senator Bala Mohammed, the immediate past minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Reuben Abati, the immediate paste spokesperson for the Nigerian president who served under President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, a former two-time minister of state, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, a former two-time minister, and Engineer Bashir Ushaq Bashir.

Taken in the month of November 2016, the picture was taken in the EFCC underground cell when the five men were illegally detained by the anti-graft commission.

While in custody, the men received some high profile visitors who showed solidarity with them.

Prominent Roman Catholic Bishop, Matthew Kukah first visited the detention facility to encourage the detainees. His visit was followed by the leadership of the PDP led by the national chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi. Another high profile delegation led by former minister of the FCT, Jeremiah Useni also paid them a visit in addition to a delegation of the Middle Belt Forum.

The visits irked the EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, who clamped down on visitation at facilities and banned phone calls as well.

Abati and Obanikoro were release from detention after this photo was taken. Fani-Kayode was transferred to Kuje Prison and later released on bail by a court.

The status of Mohammed and Bashir remains unclear.
