A famous local politician and member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Azeez Ashake was shot dead at a close range in front of his house at Isale Eko, Lagos Island on Saturday, September 20,2014 by men suspected to be political thugs.

This was following a political campaign which has already started against the 2015 elections.

Furthermore, his son Usman was also shot but it was learnt he survived it and is currently getting treatment at an unnamed hospital in the Lagos Island.

Ashake was said to be a very influential leader who heads a particular political group in Lagos. His murder was said to have caused serious violence over the weekend in Isale Eko as four others were killed in a retaliation attack.

Policemen made efforts to restore peace in the area by sending several policemen and patrol vans but all efforts proved abortive as it couldn’t stop the warring politicians from fighting.
