Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has pardoned 15 prison inmates.

A statement from the Government House in Yola on Thursday, September 30, 2021, said the 15 inmates are serving prison terms in various correctional institutions across the state.

The statement signed by the Governor’s Director General of Media and Communications, Solomon Kumangar, said the pardon is in commemoration of Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary.

The statement added, however, that the release of the inmates is to take effect after all legal formalities have been concluded with the Correctional Institutions.

“The Governor acted on the advice of the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy, and in exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 212(i) (d) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended,” the statement explained.

It specified that the 15 inmates are serving various prison terms in Numan, Yola, and New Custodial Centres.

“Meanwhile, activities marking the 61st Independence Anniversary will hold at the Mahmud Ribadu Square at 8:00 o’clock in the morning, on Friday October 1st 2021,” the statement added.
