Former FBI Director Comey ‘Ashamed’ Of Trump He Considered Identifying As Canadian

Must read

During a recent trip to Ireland to promote his book, former FBI Director James Comey admitted he considered telling Irish immigration officials that he is Canadian because he is so “ashamed” of the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

The comments came as the Trump administration faced on onslaught of scrutiny over its “zero tolerance” immigration policy.

What did Comey say?

“I am ashamed of the way my country has acted with respect of those children. I am disgusted, I am horrified, I am embarrassed, I’m ashamed,” Comey said, according to the Irish Times.

“My wife and I were joking, not really joking; we wanted to tell the people on the customs line coming here that we were Canadian. And we were joking but it’s funny because it reveals a truth: I’m ashamed,” he added.

Comey’s comments came during a lengthy interview in Dublin, the Irish Times reported.

However, there was no mention of Trump’s recent executive order, which barred the continued separation of children from their parents. Trump never established a policy that separated children from parents; his administration only strictly enforced laws and policies already on the books.

A day earlier, during an interview with The Guardian, Comey likened the immigrant child detention camps to interment camps for Japanese-Americans during World War II.
