Rivers state governor Rotimi Amaechi’s second cousin, Sabinus Ordu on Monday, September 8, 2014 was murdered by unknown gunmen in his farm in Ubima area in Ikwerre local government area of the state, according to a report by The Scoop.
The late Ordu until his death served as the vice principal of Community Secondary School (CSS) in Aluu community, Ikwerre.
The death of the educationist was announced by the Rivers state commissioner of information, Ibim Semenitari who affirmed that Ordu and Governor Amaechi shared the same grandparents, although the governor sees him more as an uncle.
While narrating the killing, she said Ordu had returned from work on the fateful day, had his lunch and ventured on his motorcycle to his farm to check traps he had set for bush animals but never returned home.
A search party was set up to look for him at about 8pm and his dismembered body was found beside a bush path. after which the matter was reported to the police.
On the question on whether the death of Mr. Ordu could be connoted as political, Mrs. Semenitari had this to say: “The man is the Vice Principal of a school and a quiet civil servant.
“He is not a card carrying member of APC and he is not a contractor. Naturally, as a governor’s relation he may be sympathetic to the governor’s political beliefs but nothing more. But we are hesitant to think that the gruesome murder is politically motivated.
“All fingers point to that fact but we need to be cautious. This to us is ominous, especially now that the elections are around the corner,The governor has refused to comment on the murder because the victim is his relation.
“The government enjoins the police to unravel the killers and they should they should be brought to book. This should not be one such killings that will join the league of unresolved murders and other heinous crimes in the country.”
