As part of campaign activities for the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan, a national support group, Gio15 will hold a novelty football match to be played in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The information was made public by Ejike Obioko, the Chairman of the National Organising Committee, who availed that the match will hold on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Squash Club, Government House, Asaba.
He said the match is a way for the group to show appreciation to President Jonathan for his exemplary showing in sports and women development.
Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include Chief Guest, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, governor of Delta State, Party (PDP) National Chairman, National Women and Youth Leaders, legislators, PDP governors, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governors and serving ministers. Others include Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, football legends, Henry Nwosu and Austin Okocha, former female national team goalkeeper, Ann Chiejine, top Nigerian artistes with actor Francis Duru compering the event.
Obiko said: “Women and youths of all walks of life will play the novelty match to entertain a crowd of registered voters for GEJ’s re-election. It is only a mischievous person that will conclude that President Jonathan has not advanced the cause of Nigerian women since he came on board. Even women at the grassroots are smiling.”
