UYO, Nigeria — Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state, effective immediately.
The announcement was made on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Uyo by Enobong Uwah, secretary to the state government (SSG), who said the governor acted under the provisions of Section 6 of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023.
“The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours,” Uwah stated.
“He commends them for the roles they have played towards achieving the promises contained in the ARISE agenda.”
Uwah further directed all former chairpersons of the affected boards and commissions to hand over government property in their custody to the most senior officers in their respective agencies.
The dissolution had been anticipated. During a media briefing to mark Akwa Ibom’s 37th anniversary in 2024, Governor Eno signaled his intention to reorganize the state’s executive framework, including statutory and non-statutory boards.
At the time, he assured commissioners and board members that the move would not come as a surprise, noting that he was only “waiting for the right time” to hold a valedictory session to honour their service.
The dissolution comes at a time of significant political realignments in Akwa Ibom. In recent months, the state has seen a shift in party loyalties, with Governor Eno defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this year, a move that unsettled the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-South state.
