Policeman And Soldier Gunned Down At Military Checkpoint In Delta

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of military personnel and a policeman by gunmen at a military checkpoint at Oton area of Sapele, Sapele council area of Delta state.

The incident occurred on Sunday, January 24, 2021, causing serious tension in the timber town.

The deceased were gunned down when bandits attacked the military post through the Oton River in speedboats.

Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the spokesperson of the Command, confirmed the incident on Monday morning.

“Two operatives were killed. We are investigating the incident,” Onovwakpoyeya said.

She further stated that no one has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Community sources claimed that the armed men had stormed the community through the Oton River to carry out an operation.

It was gathered that the operatives were shot dead during a gun duel with the bandits.

It was not clear if any of the bandits was killed during the onslaught.

Residents of the community revealed that military troops have been drafted to the area.
