Retired Customs Officer Killed, Son Kidnapped in Plateau

PLATEAU STATE, NIGERIA – A retired customs officer, Micah Gochin, was killed, and his son kidnapped in a brazen attack on their Plateau State home late Sunday night, March 26, 2023.

A community source, who requested anonymity, informed journalists that the tragic incident occurred around 11:00 pm at Gochin’s residence, located along Bauchi Ring Road, opposite the University of Jos quarters.

The gunmen, who had strategically positioned themselves around the property, forcefully entered the house and held its occupants hostage.

According to the source, the assailants proceeded directly to Gochin’s bedroom, shooting him at close range and leaving him to die in a pool of his blood.

After committing the heinous act, the kidnappers abducted Gochin’s son and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

Plateau police spokesman Alfred Alabo confirmed the incident, stating that by the time the police teams led by the DPO Nasarawa and Laranto arrived at the scene, the gunmen had already escaped.

Alabo added that the police had transported the deceased to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Plateau State Police Command is currently working diligently to apprehend those responsible for the attack and safely rescue the retired customs officer’s son.
