Tension As 2 Communities Clash In Cross River

There was pandemonium in two communities in Yala council area of Cross River State on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, when residents of the communities clashed over a parcel of rice farm.

The fresh crisis between the two communities, (O’Oba and Itega Okpam) began on Tuesday night through to Wednesday afternoon.

The number of casualties can not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Alhassan Aminu, the state Police commissioner, confirmed the incident to reporters in the state.

He said some officers of the Command have been mobilized to restore normalcy in the area. He also assured residents of peace and security.

“Some miscreants from O’Oba invaded the other community and began to shoot.

“Delegations from the warring communities had met with my DPO in charge of Okpoma. We have mobilised our men to take over these places. We are going to ensure peace and security.”

It can be recalled that the two communities clashed in 2020 leading to the death of at least five persons as properties were destroyed.
