NEW YORK, United States — A New York court ordered Harvey Weinstein to serve 15 years in prison on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The former Hollywood producer was sentenced for sexually assaulting Miriam Haley, a former television production assistant, in 2006.
Weinstein, 74, was convicted at a retrial last year of a first-degree criminal sex act for the attack at his Manhattan apartment. The offence carried a maximum sentence of 25 years.
Prosecutors sought a 20-year term, while the defence asked for three additional years beyond the six Weinstein had already served, according to an Associated Press report published by CNN.
His lawyer, Jacob Kaplan, cited his client’s health in seeking leniency.
Kaplan said Weinstein had been hospitalised six times since 2025 and had blood cancer, congestive heart failure, and kidney problems.

Statements Before Sentencing
Haley, who testified at two trials, told the court that the assault had left her fearful for her safety.
She said seeking to hold Weinstein accountable had caused further trauma and that she had repeatedly considered abandoning that effort.
“It’s a life sentence for me.”
Weinstein apologised to people he may have hurt, but continued to deny guilt.
“I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence,” Weinstein told the court.
Earlier Convictions and Retrials
In 2024, New York’s highest court ordered a new trial after finding that testimony about allegations outside the charges had unfairly prejudiced Weinstein.
The ruling overturned his 2020 convictions and the resulting 23-year sentence for assaulting Haley and raping Jessica Mann, an aspiring actress, in 2013.
At the 2025 retrial, jurors convicted Weinstein in Haley’s case and acquitted him of a separate sexual assault charge involving Kaja Sokola.
They could not agree on the rape charge involving Mann.
Another jury deadlocked on that charge in May.
Prosecutors subsequently dropped it after Mann said she could not face testifying again, allowing sentencing in Haley’s case to proceed.
Weinstein also awaits resentencing in Los Angeles.
A California appeals court upheld his 2022 rape conviction but set aside the 16-year prison term because the sentencing judge had treated his subsequently overturned New York convictions as an aggravating factor.
