DAURA, Nigeria — Police authorities in Katsina State have arrested a 23-year-old woman, Rabi’a Labaran, for allegedly stabbing her co-wife, Zainab Lawal, to death following a domestic dispute in Daura Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of Saturday, May 24, 2025, behind Dadi Primary School in Sabon Gari, Daura, and was reported to the Sabon Gari Police Division by the women’s husband, Nasir Yusuf.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, May 25, 2025, by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the husband had returned home around 11 p.m. and found his first wife, Zainab, lying in a pool of blood, having sustained multiple stab wounds.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team of operatives to the scene and rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre in Daura,” Aliyu said.
“She was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.”
Following preliminary investigations, Rabi’a Labaran, the second wife, was arrested in connection with the murder.
During questioning, she reportedly confessed to the killing, attributing the act to a violent altercation stemming from an ongoing misunderstanding between her and the deceased.
While the motive remains under investigation, police say jealousy and long-standing domestic tensions may have contributed to the fatal confrontation.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, condemned the act and urged members of the public to avoid domestic violence and seek peaceful and lawful avenues for resolving disputes.
“This is a sad reminder of the dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts,” Shehu stated.
“We call on all citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.”
The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the police investigation.
