IGP Extends Tinted Glass Permit Deadline to October 2

Must read

ABUJA, Nigeria — Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has extended the deadline for the enforcement of the tinted glass permit to Thursday, October 2, 2025, citing the need for a more thorough review of applications.

In a statement on Monday, August 11, 2025, police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the move would allow “meticulous scrutiny” to ensure permits are granted only to eligible persons in line with national security considerations.

The extension, which had previously been moved to Tuesday, August 12, 2025, will also enable the police to refine both digital and physical verification processes “to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse,” Adejobi said.

He urged Nigerians to apply only via the official portal, possap.gov.ng, and to report any cases of extortion, hidden charges or unauthorised processing through the hotline 08147818871.

Adejobi noted that a surge in applications through the official portal reflected “heightened public compliance” with the directive.

He said the IGP commended the public’s cooperation, stressing that the initiative aimed to balance convenience with strong security measures.

“This decision follows a significant surge in applications via the official portal,” the statement read.

“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.”
