RIP: IGi Insurance Founder Remi Olowude Dies At 63

The sad news of the death of the Executive Vice Chairman, Industry and General Insurance (IGI) Plc, Remi Olowude, has filtered the air leaving a lot of lives which he has affected positively heartbroken.

He died at the age of 63 in one of the hospitals in the United States of America on Saturday, September 27, 2014 after a protracted cancerous sickness.

According to Punch, the Senior Manger, Corporate Communications, IGI, Mr. Steve Ilo, who confirmed his death, said an official statement would be released today, Monday, September 29, 2014.

Meanwhile, he was born in 1951 and being highly endowed with intellect, he maximized his multidisciplinary background, professionalism and vision to build a firm with interests in various sectors of the Nigerian market.

Among his conglomerates is IGi, which has been in operation since January 1992 after it was incorporated as a limited liability company on October 31, 1991.

Furthermore, between June 2012 and June 2014, the late icon was the chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association.

While speaking about his death, some workers disclosed how dearly the insurance industry will miss him.

According to the President, Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria, Chief Lebi Omoboyowa, Olowude , the deceased was intelligent, hardworking, brainy and a insightful businessman. He added that the deceased was his friend, Omoboyowa maintaining that Olowude knew the right measures to take in order to achieve business growth adding that he was humble enough to heed to meaningful advice from people

Also, the Chairman, Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Mr. Gus Wiggle stunned by the death of the Insurance expert revealed that they were awaiting the news of his recovery from the sickness in order that he might continue with his business.

Wiggle described Olowude as someone that a lot of people look up to and want to trail the same lines as he did.

According to him, “Words are just not enough to say so much about what Olowude was to the industry because of whether we like it or not, he was one of the finest brains that passed through the industry, he used insurance to promote sports”.
