INEC Office Set Ablaze In Abia State

Following the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the Abia State governorship election was inconclusive, unknown arsonists have reportedly set the INEC office in Isiala Ngwa South on fire.

According to an anonymouse source who spoke with Daily Independent, the suspected arsonists carried out the razing of the office late in the night of Sunday, April 12, 2015, pouring petrol on the building before burning it and disappearing, causing residents in the vicinity to begin scampering for safety.

According to disputed results released by INEC for the area, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 7,133 votes while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won 5,686 votes.

 The source further revealed that INEC staff on the scene could no salvage the situation as the thugs were armed with dangerous weapons and threatened their lives.

The matter has since been reported to the police and was confirmed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Anthony Agbazuere, who hails from the area, same as the APGA governorship candidate, Alex Otti.
