INEC Caves To Pressure, Postpones Edo Election By 2 Weeks

Must read

After what seems to be intense pressures from security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will shift the Edo State governorship by two weeks.

According to Leadership, the election which was earlier scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2016 has been confirmed by an unidentified source to hold in two weeks time.

It has been debated if the election would hold or not due to the unrest in the State.

Investigations have shown that the police have pulled out its personnel while National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) have refused to deploy corp members for the election which wad to be held on Saturday.

“There is no security to escort them simply because they are unavailable. The security agencies are going to formally communicate their security advice to us in a short while.

“We shall meet to take a decision. At the moment it is no longer feasible to deploy and conduct the elections
NYSC has advised us that many parents have called to withdraw their children from election duty. Since they form the bulk of election duty personnel, their withdrawal is a major challenge,” the anonymous source said.
