The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said it believes it has identified the masked man, acting on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS) group and appearing to behead of two American journalist and a British aid worker.

The information was announced by James Comey, the FBI director who briefed journalists at the bureau’s headquarters in Washington DC, he also added the man’s name and nationality will not be disclosed, according to Huffington Post.

The man, whose English showed he was a British national always held a long knife and in what appears to be the beheading of American  journalists James Foley, Steven Sotloff  and British aid worker David Haines, although there is no confirmation if man did the actual killing himself, as they were not shown in the videos.

British ambassador Peter Westmacott, affirmed in August that the UK was ‘not far away’ from getting the identity of the unknown ISIS terrorist.

“In a region that has known so much bloodshed, these terrorists are unique in their brutality. They execute captured prisoners. They kill children. They enslave, rape and force women into marriage. They threatened a religious minority with genocide. In acts of barbarism, they took the lives of two American journalists – Jim Foley and Steven Sotloff,” US President Barack Obama said on September 10 after the videos were made public as he vowed to go after Islamic State militants wherever they may be.

Since then, the US has led a coalition of Arab States in launching airstrikes targeted at the Islamic State in Iraq. This week, the UK parliament authorised airstrikes against ISIS.
