Kogi: Tragedy As 4 Polytechnic Graduates Die While Digging Well

Kabba town in Kogi State was on Monday, April 1, 2019, thrown into mourning as four Higher National Diploma, HND, graduates, including two brothers, died in the well they dug.

David, Sunday, Ayo and Ogbekedo, were said to be specialists in well digging. Two of them were said to be of the same parents.

The incident occurred at Zango quarters, Kabba, where a primary school teacher, Mrs Agnes Baiyere, had allegedly hired them to dig a well in the front of her newly constructed building in the area.

Baiyere, who teaches at the St Mary’s primary school, Kabba was said to have earlier contracted David who also invited the three others for the job.

They were said to have dug the well up to about 25 feet for about a week after which two of them went back Monday evening to evacuate some broken blocks from the well.

It was gathered that when one of them entered the well, he complained of dizziness. He and one of his colleagues who attempted to rescue got trapped.

The two others, who rushed to the scene to rescue their trapped colleagues, also reportedly got trapped.

Staff of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in the area later evacuated their bodies which were later deposited in the mortuary of the Kabba General Hospital.
