Allow Security Agencies Fight Fulani Herdsmen – Akeredolu Warns Ondo Residents

Must read

Following the attack by suspected Fulani herders in Molege community, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Ondo State Government has advised residents of the state to desist from confronting invaders.

Governor Akeredolu in a statement issued by his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said any form of attack must be reported to security agencies instead of seeking self-help.

A few days ago, herders laid siege to Molege village where three people were hacked and houses razed.

The Commissioner emphasised that anyone who resorts to self-help will be viewed as sabotaging the government’s effort at ensuring maximum security of lives and property.

While describing the killings as barbaric and condemnable, Ojogo said efforts have been initiated to apprehend the culprits through inter-state cooperation and synergy.

He added that if security agencies were allowed to intervene in the incident before its escalation, the situation would have been avoidable

“Residents in the state, especially farmers, are enjoined to report any invasion of farmlands and unauthorised grazing to the Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, South West Security Network, Amotekun, and other security agencies. None is permitted to resort to self-help.

“This reinforced directive, which is the outcome of the State Security Council meeting is pertinent following renewed hostilities between farmers and herders resulting in casualties in some boundary towns between Ondo and Edo States.”
