Man Breaks Friend’s Spinal Cord Over Argument Of Who Is Older

A car wash attendant, Michael Taiwo hs been arrested and brought before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos state after he allegedly broken the spinal cord of his friend, Akeem Amoo, following a disagreement over who is older between them.

The duo who are both 28 years old grew up together  in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.

Taiwo claimed to be the older between than Amoo and demanded some respect while he(the latter) addresses him in the public.

According to Punch, on January 28, around 8 pm, Amoo, a commercial motorcyclist (popularly called okada rider), reportedly went to wash his motorcycle at a car wash at Omisesan Junction where Taiwo works.

The reportedly grazed Taiwo’s leg with the motorcycle which lednTaiwo to dare Amoo to a fight.

It was during the process that Taiwo lifted Amoo and smashed his back on the floor, which caused him a spinal cord injury.

The suspect was later arrested and arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of the state on one count of assault.

The charge read, “That you, Michael Taiwo, on January 28, 2015, at about 7.40pm, at Omisesan Junction, Alagbado, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did cause a grievous harm on Akeem Amoo by hitting him on ground full of stones which broke his backbone and left ankle and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”

The defendant, was on Monday, february 9, 2015 charged with a one count of assault although he pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. T. Akani, granted Taiwo bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum who must present evidence of tax payment and means of livelihood to the court for verification.

The case was adjourned till Monday, March 23, 2015 for further mention.

Amoo had been admitted to an orthopaedic hospital in Lagos.
