AKWA IBOM – A man suspected to be mentally ill ran amok on Monday, March 10, 2014, killing two persons and injuring another at Afaha Ukwa Junction, Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
The deranged man allegedly dragged an elderly man off a motorcycle and smashed his head with a stone, after which he attacked two more people, one of which later died in the hospital.
Eyewitnesses recount how the man started out begging for money, but apparently went into a rage when nobody obliged him. The entire area was reportedly engulfed in pandemonium following the attacks.
It was learnt that the mentally ill man fled when angry youths tried to apprehend him.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate.
