Croatian midfielder, Ivan Rakitic has hailed his Barcelona teammate, Lionel Messi as the greatest football player who has graced the surface of the earth.
The 27-year-old was speaking ahead of his club’s Tuesday’s Uefa Super Cup match against his former team, Sevilla. Rakitic who scored the first goal in the final of the 2014/2015 UEFA Champions league game against Juventus believes that 28-year-old Argentine is the best soccer player the world has ever produced.
“Messi? We all know who is he. He’s the best football player in the history”, Rakitic said.
Speaking about Tuesday’s game, the former Sevilla player had this to say:
“I’m very excited. There’s nothing nicer than starting a season with a title.
“I am a huge Sevilla fan, but not in this game. As always, I’ll give all I have to Barca. We want to continue making history on the way to winning all six titles.
“Leo and Neymar are very important for us, but so too are the other players.
“Maybe we are not 100 per cent ready for the new season, but we can win the first title and there can be no excuses.”
Despite spending less than three decades on the earth so far, Messi is already a four-time Ballon d’Or winner.
