Nigerian Troops Foil Attempted Bomb Attack In Maiduguri

Fresh panic had gripped the residents of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, today, Friday, November 28, 2014, when explosion sounds in some parts of the already troubled area.

Being one of the areas with the most attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents, residents felt that it was one of the usual attacks by the terrorists.

It was discovered that some explosives were planted before dawn in a commercial area by suspected members of the terrorist group, according to Punch reports.

A bomb had been previously planted by the insurgents who were patiently waiting for the area to be a populated before they would detonate the  devise but unfortunately for them, enough, the devise was found and the military attention was called to avoid the attack.

According to the spokesman of the youth vigilante group, Jubrin Gunda, there was no cause for an alarm as the explosion that caused the panic was detonated by the military to forestall any casualties.

He said, “The attention of the security was called to a strange package dropped at the busy Custom area of the town this morning (Friday).”

“The people of the area woke up to see the strange object and immediately called the attention of the military who moved to the place to discover that it was an explosive device.

“They went to the area and detonated the bomb at about 10:45am.”

Gunda however revealed that there was no casualty as it was a controlled detonation.

As a result, security had been tightened in the town to prevent a reprisal, while vehicles were properly scrutinized on all major roads in the town, which had reportedly caused a gridlock in the area.
