A mother has pleaded guilty to killing her children, claiming she doesn’t regret it.
Mitchelle Blair beat and suffocated her son and daughter and then stored their bodies in a home freezer, a court heard.
The 36-year-old – from Detroit – was found competent to face trial by mental health experts.
Recalling the deaths of Stoni Blair, 13, and Stephen Berry, 9, Ms Blair said:’I definitely meant to kill them, if I got a chance to do it again I would.
‘I don’t regret none of this. I don’t feel no remorse for the death of those demons.’
Judge Dana Hathaway asked a series of questions about the lead up to her children’s deaths, which were months apart, in 2012 and 2013.
Blair said she repeatedly beat Stoni and Stephen, poured scalding hot water on them and made her son drink harmful window cleaning fluid.
The judge asked: ‘So this was your way of inflicting punishment?’
‘Definitely’, replied Blair.
She was arrested in March after officers carrying out an eviction found the bodies of her children in the freezer.
Blair claims she had intended to kill her daughter, but wasn’t aware the abuse of her son would lead to his death. She claimed her children had sexually abused a sibling, but she decided against getting the police involved.
Blair pleaded guilty to murder in the first degree without any deal with prosecutors.
She also said she would have accepted the death penalty, but Michigan does not enforce capital punishment.
