Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Threatens Legal Action if Barred From Resuming on September 15

ABUJA, Nigeria — Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has cautioned the Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA), Kamorudeen Ogunlana, against preventing her from resuming legislative duties when the Senate reconvenes on Monday, September 15, 2025.

In a letter dated Wednesday, September 10, 2025, and signed by her counsel, Chief Michael Numa (SAN), the senator warned that she would have no option but to pursue legal action if the directive of the court affirming her reinstatement was not obeyed.

“Take notice that failure to comply by Monday, 15th September 2025, will leave us with no alternative but to initiate proceedings against you personally and in your official capacity,” the letter stated.

Numa argued that the CNA’s reported refusal to implement an existing court judgment runs contrary to the Constitution and the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

He said possible legal steps include contempt proceedings, disciplinary sanctions, and holding the Clerk personally liable for instigating a breach of peace.

“We strongly advise that you reconsider your untenable stance and comply with the Constitution and extant judicial orders,” the letter further read.

The dispute arises from the senator’s suspension earlier this year.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months following disciplinary action by the Senate.

Last month, the National Assembly bureaucracy said she could not resume, insisting that her suspension remained in force because the case was still before the Court of Appeal.

However, her legal team maintains that a valid judgment permits her return and that obstructing her resumption would amount to defying judicial authority.
