The Kaduna state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, conducted elections to change the state chapter’s leadership of the congress. However, things did not go as planned because it became apparent that the congress in the state had different factions within itself as the two factions choose to conduct different elections.
According to reports, one of the factions formed by the loyalists of Comrade Waba, the incumbent NLC state Chairman, Adamu Ango, was re-elected for another term in office. This meeting was held at the Gamji Park in Kaduna and 1,500 delegates were present. Also elected were James Friday as Vice Chairman 1, Bulus Chiroma, Vice Chairman 2, Emmanuel Wudiri as Treasurer, Shehu Salihu and Abdullahi Oshiame as Auditor 1 and 2, while Zainab Umar and Ladi Musa were elected ex-officio members.
While the other Comrade Joe Ajaero led faction of the party held their elections at the Textile Labour House Kaduna, Ephraim James emerged state NLC chairman. Also emerging as party officials were Shuaibu Sani and Danladi Yahya as Vice Chairman 1 and 2 respectively, Adamu Danladi, Treasurer; Collins Bulus, Internal Auditor 1; Achison Shekarau, Internal Auditor 2 and Mbat Jocab, ex-officio.
It has become obvious that the NLC in Kaduna state is going the way of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum when it divided and broke down in 2013. although in the case of the NGF, Governor Amaechi clearly won and his victory was opposed hence the creation of the factions.
