Tragedy was averted last Friday, when Nigerian soldiers were involved in a ghastly accident along Kano-Gaya Road.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, there were no casualties as a result of the crash, which involved a military truck conveying soldiers. However, some of the soldiers were reported to have been badly injured.

According to an eyewitness, the unfortunate incident happened between 8:00am and 9:00am on Friday, July 15, 2016, while the soldiers were en route to Dutse, the capital of Jigawa state.

Aminu Umar, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Kano State, confirmed the incident, explaining that it happened when the military truck conveying 36 soldiers led by Major R. O. Alieze had a break failure.

“It was our rescue team in Widil that conveyed the victims to the General Hospital, Dutse, where they are receiving medical attention.” He said.

FRSC boss, however, ruled out the possibility of any of the soldiers dying as a result of the incident, explaining that such reports were “mere rumours.”
