NNPC Not Overwhelmed By Month-Long Fuel Scarcity – Kachikwu

Must read

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has assured that no effort would be spared to restore normalcy to the fuel supply situation in the country soon.

The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the corporation, Garba Mohammed, said the NNPC was doing everything within its capacity to end in the weeks ahead the noticeable fuel queues at filling stations in most parts of the country.

Mr. Mohammed said the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, was on top of the situation and had already activated steps to restore normal fuel supply.

Mr. Kachikwu had said Wednesday that fuel scarcity may persist for two more months.

The minister was speaking in Abuja at the end of the meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the oil workers’ unions, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.

However, Mr. Mohammed said rather than the inference that the government may have been overwhelmed by the fuel supply crisis, the minister was giving a sincere assessment of the current fuel supply scenario.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is pertinent to state that efforts are in full gear to eliminate all extraneous factors which have so far impeded the free flow of petrol across the country, especially the issue of foreign exchange for oil marketers, which the Honorable Minister is working with the Central Bank of Nigeria to resolve,” the NNPC spokesperson said.

While apologizing to Nigerians for the recent hardship in accessing petroleum products in most major cities in the country, Mr. Mohammed assured that normalcy would soon be restored in the fuel supply and distribution system in the weeks ahead.

He urged Nigerians to be patient with the government as the corporation continues to work towards a lasting solution to the crisis.
