Former Miss Nigeria 1986, Rita Anuku, the younger sister of Nollywood actor, Hanks Anuku has died at the age of 47.
A statement released by the late beauty queen family said she passed away on Thursday, 2th 2015, at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.
Rita Anuku, who became a beauty queen at age 18, had been battling with cancer for two years. She is survived by four children; a boy and three girls.
Late Rita Anuku was a first cousin of Hon. David Anuku, former commissioner of Special Duties in Delta State.
Hanks Anuku is a popular actor in the Nigerian and Ghanaian movie scene in which he often plays the role of a gangster. In February 2015, news went viral that he had contracted HIV/AIDS and had deliberately infected his wife with the incurable virus.
In a phone conversation with Naij.com, the actor expressed his displeasure over the bad light in which the news has cast him and his immediate family members, most especially his wife and children.
The actor’s publicist, Bayo Adeoye refuted the report and described it as “not only confusing but a total lie.”
Burial arrangement would be announced by the family at a later date.
