Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, and two other former heads of state, Ibrahim Babangida and Yakubu Gowon, were absent in the second meeting of the Council of State summoned by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, in the State House, Abuja.

President Goodluck Jonathan, former interim president Ernest Shonekan and former military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, were in attendance.

It is still unclear as to why the trio of Obasanjo, Gowon and Babangida were absent the event.

Goodluck Jonathan Centre of Attraction

There was a mild drama on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at the Council of State meeting as photographers and cameramen ‘snubbed’ the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari for his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari led Jonathan as well as former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar and former head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan to the meeting.

It was reported that cameramen and photographers focused on Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for some minutes while Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, governors and other officials in attendance remained standing.

This is the first meeting of Council of State to be attended by Jonathan since Buhari became president.
