The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has warned people of Igbo extraction especially political leaders to be wary former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In a press statement made available to journalists in Awka on Tuesday, January 3, 2016 and signed by the leader of MASSOB, Uche Madu, the group noted that the current political antics as well as romance and friendship in Igbo land with Obasanjo is very dangerous to the political survival of the Igbo people in Nigeria.
The statement reads in part: “During his eight year tenure as Nigeria’s President, he consciously and willfully created political problems for Ndigbo.
“He initiated several political frustration against Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo states during the tenure of Orji Uzor Kalu, Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Chimaraoke Nnamani.
“Obasanjo ignored Igbo land with no infrastructural development, he politically witch haunted our people. He also mesmerised Ndigbo by initiating the impeachment of Igbo Senators who occupied the office of Senate President.
“Today, Igbo governors of Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu states are celebrating him by inviting him to commission projects in their respective states.
“During his eight year rule, he never visited Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu) or showed concerns to his position as Igbo leader. Olusegun Obasanjo, an enemy of Ndigbo hates former President Goodluck Jonathan because of his brotherly treatment of Ndigbo.
“He did not see Ndigbo as conquered people but appreciated and acknowledged the leadership qualities and industrious nature of Ndigbo.”
According to the group, Igbos only occupied key principal political positions during the era of Jonathan naming the positions to include Minister of finance, Secretary to the FG, Petroleum Minister, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff, etc.
The statement further reads: “The Enugu International Airport, which Olusegun Obasanjo vehemently opposed because of his pathological hatred against Biafrans was built by Goodluck Jonathan.
“Also during President Jonathan’s tenure, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu was given a due attention, his family was recognised and a befitting state burial for a gallant military leader was accorded him.
“Today President Jonathan is hated and abused by Olusegun Obasanjo because of this singular heroic respect given to Eze Igbo Gburugburu.
“Obasanjo is working seriously through some disgruntled Igbo politicians to destablise the developing cohesion among Igbo leaders.
“Obasanjo has been mesmerised politically in Yoruba land, because of his archaisms, he can no longer command political respect in Yoruba land.”
MASSOB however, warned those associating or romancing with the former President in the name of Igbo to desist from it immediately.
