Okonjo-Iweala Named 33rd Greatest World Leader

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been named as the 33rd greatest world leader according to an annual publication – 50 greatest leaders – by Fortune, an  American magazine.

Fortune recognized Okonjo-Iweala alongside notable world leaders like Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Pope Francis, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, U.S. billionaire, Bill Gates, and wife, Melinda, as well as Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple Chief Executive Officer, Tom Cook.

Describing Okonjo-Iweala as “a fearless promoter of sound economic policies”, Fortune hailed her as a key factor for Nigeria’s exponential growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which has seen the country become Africa’s largest economy with a GDP of $510 billion.

Okonjo-Iweala is 2-time Minister of Finance in Nigeria, a former Managing Director of The World Bank Group between December 2007 and August 2011.
