Osun Guber Race: Afenifere Suspends Omisore For Supporting APC

Must read

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, has suspended one of its members, Iyiola Omisore.

Omisore is a former senator and was the candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the last governorship election in Osun State.

Senator Omisore’s suspension was announced via a communique after the group’s meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

“The meeting took a decision to suspend Senator Iyiola Omisore for one year for violating Afenifere’s directive which affected the outcome of Osun election,” the communique of the meeting, read by a chieftain of the group, Korede Duyile, said.

Afenifere had before the election in Osun State opted not to back the All Progressives Congress.

However, after the election went into rerun, Omisore declared his support for the APC against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

This move by the governorship hopeful may have led the emergence of APC’s Gboyega Oyetola as governor-elect, analysts say.

Adeleke has contested the result of the election at the tribunal.
