PDP Denies Anyanwu’s Forgery Claims, Says Convention Letters Were Signed in Governors’ Presence

ABUJA, Nigeria — The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied allegations by the party’s national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, that his signature was forged or cloned on a letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the party’s forthcoming national convention.

Anyanwu had, in petitions dated Wednesday, October 15, 2025, written to INEC, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force, alleging that a letter referenced PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol.1M/25-140 and dated Monday, August 25, 2025, bore a forged version of his signature. He claimed the letter was sent to INEC without his knowledge or authorisation.

“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature on the letter,” Anyanwu had written.

Reacting during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, October 20, 2025, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s national publicity secretary, described Anyanwu’s claim as false and misleading.

He maintained that the letter in question — along with other documents related to the party’s 2025 national convention — was duly signed by the national secretary himself.

Ologunagba said the documents were signed only a few hours before the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on August 25, 2025, and in the presence of several high-ranking party leaders.

“Senator Anyanwu personally signed those documents, including the letter to INEC notifying the commission of our national convention,” Ologunagba stated.

“He did so in the full view of key members of our party, including governors and NEC members.”

According to the PDP spokesperson, those present when the documents were signed included Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa; Bala Mohammed of Bauchi; Seyi Makinde of Oyo; Ademola Adeleke of Osun; and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.

Ologunagba said that during the NEC meeting, Bala Mohammed — who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum — confirmed that all necessary communications, particularly the letter to INEC, had been duly signed and dispatched.

“We are a law and order party; we follow due process. We have presented you with the fact. You can verify,” Ologunagba said.

Anyanwu’s petition had urged INEC, the DSS, and the police to investigate what he described as a “criminal conduct” by unnamed officers within the party and their alleged collaborators in INEC.

The controversy has deepened internal divisions within the PDP ahead of its Saturday, November 15, 2025, elective national convention.

Despite the growing tension, Ologunagba assured that preparations for the convention remain on course, insisting that the party will not be distracted by internal disputes or misinformation.
